Synopsis of Multimodal Presentation
I chose to evaluate the work of Martin Parr. He is an English photographer whose street photography initially raised criticism from the wealthy social class of England. Parr broke ground when he started documenting the everyday life of middle class Brits in the 1980’s. He portrayed them to be overweight and messy, an insult to the already class-conscious England. Since then he has produced over 40 photo books and can be found in numerous exhibitions. At first glance his pictures seem exaggerated and strange due to his unusual prospective. However, his photographs are both explanatory and ethically evaluative as his images portray a message about different social classes or cultures. With producing humorous and original photographs, Parr is able to show his viewers how different people live.

My New Perception of Photography
Before understanding what it was to criticize an image, I would have simply skimmed over Parr’s work. My reaction to his work would have probably been, “Why is this man taking pictures of ugly places with average looking people?” I now appreciate and enjoy street photography. I enjoy watching people, as does Parr, which is why I was attracted to his work. Now I know that there is a deeper meaning to his projects. For example, you may look at one of his pictures and laugh initially. Looking at it longer, taking in the details, you then begin to understand Parr is sending a message in his image. By Parr traveling all over the world shooting his projects, viewers can appreciate the variety of everyday life between different cultures and social classes. The fact that these messages are presented in unusual ways is what draws a viewer in. What the viewer walks away with from the image, however, is knowledge of living in different parts of the world.
