I think this is my most successful image because the diffused lighting adds to the sense of abandonment of the truck. The dull, gray sky in the background, in my opinion, complements the old truck. The most challenging part of the assignment for me was finding pictures that obeyed the lighting rules. I had a hard time finding subjects that also went along with the lighting. To create stronger images in the future I will find a subject I like and take pictures of it on different days in different lighting. I think becoming more comfortable with different forms of lighting will help me create better pictures. By seeing the same subject at different times in the day or under a different sky will help me understand what lighting is best for different subjects. I enjoyed the color and composition portion of the assignment. For me I had an easier time with those aspects but in the future I would like to combine some of the elements together (such as a rule of thirds photograph in black in white) to create a better image.
Part 2
I am personally drawn to this picture because I have a love of animals. The main interest is obviously the horses in the stall. I think Angela captured it very well with all three of their heads poking out. It is a different take on simply just taking a picture of a horse in its stall. I believe the depth of field complements the subject well along with the lighting. There is some lighting by the farthest horse which I think adds to the picture. You get a better sense of the barn as you know where the lighting is coming in and how it hits the horses. In my opinion the colors, saturation, and contrast are great. There are a lot of brown tones but are broken up all the horses being different shades of brown. The image makes me feel happy. It takes me back to my childhood of when I used to ride horses and visit the barn.
I think I am drawn to this image because it is visually appealing to look at, and Courtney is right in saying that the diffuse light adds to the abandoned look of the truck. The picture looks mysterious and it draws me in to take a closer look. The main interest in this picture is the truck, and she did a good job of finding a subject because it is hidden away behind the bushes, but you can still see what it is. The depth of field works well because it kind of has a vanishing point that makes you look behind the main subject to see another truck in the background, but you can very clearly see that the main focus of this picture is the truck because it is up close and in focus. The diffuse lighting in the picture works because the subject is meant to look abandoned and eerie, and the lighting helps get that feeling from just looking at it. This image makes me feel ominous, like I am in an abandoned lot and you don't know what else is around. All in all, I think Courtney nailed it in this picture, she used diffuse light correctly and came out with a great picture.
